Innosuisse Project Underway!

We are pleased to announce our latest R&D project is now underway.

TT1000: Towards Megawatt Scale Mobile Airborne Wind Energy

The goal of the project is to further develop the concept for our first product, the TT1000. This is going to be the world`s first MW scale, mobile, Airborne Wind Energy system! With a converged concept we will start the concept and pre-design of a sub-scale commercial demonstrator which will be launched in 2023.

We are continuing our long-term collaboration with an excellent group of partners, as well as adding some new ones to the mix:

  • ZHAW will use their high-fidelity tools to design and validate a dedicated airfoil.
  • EPFL will optimize trajectories and develop a novel model-based flight controller.
  • Life cycle assessment (LCA) performed by PSI will be embedded directly into the design process, making sure the environmental performance of the product is maximized.
  • EMPA will apply their expertise in structural analysis and optimization as well as fast prototyping and testing techniques for airborne wind energy.
  • Axalp Technologies, an expert in aviation and product development will adapt components, solutions and knowhow from the electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft sector to the TT1000.

During this project our consortium will complete a critical innovation step towards the TT1000 product which will have a significant impact in terms of massive global CO2 reductions and economic value creation in Switzerland and beyond.
The project is funded by the Swiss Innovation Agency – Innosuisse, who are a long-time supporter of TwingTec and Airborne Wind Energy in Switzerland. We would like to thank them for their trust and continued support.
